Billing

Veitur issues three main types of bills. General energy bills, bills for water supply and wastewater. Finally, bills for connections.

  • What are energy bills?

The energy Veitur distributes is hot water and electricity.

  • Why do I receive two bills for the electricity?

One of the bills is for distribution and is from Veitur that distributes electricity in their service area. The other bill is for the electricity itself and is from the electricity supplier that you choose.

  • What bills do I receive from Veitur?

It depends on where you live and what services Veitur provides in the area. Most customers get bills for electricity distribution and hot water.

Bills for the cold water and wastewater is sent to those living in areas where Veitur provide the services.

Bills for connections/household pipes are only sent to those who have applied for installation of pipes, f.ex. connections for new houses, moving of household pipes or moving of gauge frames.

  • What does a typical bill from Veitur look like?

  • Why is my bill higher than normally?

The most likely explanation is that you recently sent us a meter reading and got a bill for actual usage. If your meter reading shows that usage was more than the estimate, the first bill after that will be higher than normally. Therefore, the estimated use will be higher than before and your bill as well.

  • Why is my bill lower than normally?

The most likely explanation is that you recently sent us a meter reading and got a bill for actual usage. If your meter reading shows that usage was less than the estimate, the first bill after that will be lower than normally. Consequently, the estimated use will be lower than before and your bill as well.

  • Why did I not receive a bill for last month?

The most likely explanation is that you recently sent us a meter reading and got a bill for actual usage. The bill is a settlement for your usage from the last meter reading. If your usage was significantly lower than the estimation, you may have credit at Veitur that is taken from the bill. If your credit is higher than/same as the bill you will not receive a bill for that period.

  • Why are my bills different between months?

If you have a digital meter your bills will differ between months depending on your actual use. You can expect them to be lower in the summer and higher in the winter, especially for hot water usage. If your bill is very high, you can find some explanations here.

  • Where can I compare my bills between months and years?

On my account you are able to see all your bills. They are available two weeks before the due date, or around the 20th of each month. There you can also look at your older bills.

  • I received a bill at my old address, what should I do?

It is possible you forgot to let us know when you changed residence. If that is the case, you must come to an agreement with the new resident on who pays what. A condition is that you send a meter reading. Our staff can help, but the usage-based bill will never be completely right because the timing of the reading is not quite right.

  • How do I change the method of payment?

It is possible to change the method of payment under Reikningar - Greiðslumátabreyting on my account. We are sorry, this part of our webpage is only in Icelandic.

We offer our customers to receive the bill in their online banking account, pay via credit card or to receive the bill on paper (note that extra charges apply for the paper bill).

  • Can I switch from using hot water for household heating to electricity?

In many cases you are able to switch, but please note that heating with electricity is significantly more expensive than it is with hot water. This will not help you to save on your energy bill.

Here you can find some advice on how to save on household heating with hot water.
